Spiritus was founded with the intention of inspiring through creation, and it’s this very notion that bonds us to our friend Jason Grant - interior stylist, designer and author. Jason is soon to launch his new book “Force of Nature”, a special creation that not only showcases Jason’s creative brilliance, but also offers valuable insight into how having a greater connection to nature and self can unlock an extraordinary new world that represents who we truly are.
We recently chatted to Jason about his new book and his thoughts on design, wellness and life...
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I’m a stylist, creative and author living on Bundjalung land in the Northern rivers of NSW Australia, a magical part of the world and not for reasons most people think. I first came here to shoot for my second book, after meeting my now friend-for-life Kimberly Amos and her family, who own the iconic accommodation The Atlantic Byron Bay. Once I arrived I instantly felt at ease… staying here has that effect on you, and I soon moved here.
My background was working in magazines and for brands big and small. I now work predominantly as a creative director across multiple platforms focusing on creating physical spaces. I felt a need to escape the city and focus on living my best creative life.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE YOUR NEW BOOK, ‘Force of Nature’ AND WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
For me, nature and creativity go hand in hand. Creating books has always been a special process. For me, books are always a reflection of my personal headspace. I like to share my insights and how I do things, mostly sharing what I have learnt and what works for me. My books are a personal and indulgent creation. It’s been a while since my last book (this is my fourth) but i feel this book accurately reflects my current situation and my way of thinking and seeing the world.
HOW HAS YOUR SPIRITUAL JOURNEY INFLUENCED YOUR APPROACH TO DESIGN?
I have always been inspired and connected to nature. I’m quite intuitive and prefer to create feel-good spaces that are dynamic and magnetic. Whether it’s a motel, home, restaurant or cafe, I feel it’s important to think about how spaces make people feel. In modern times people need to feel safe, secure, nurtured and comfortable. Creating spaces that draw people in and are a visual experience is important to me. I love making spaces feel welcoming and I love a good dose of nostalgia and ease.

HOW DO YOU RESET AND RECONNECT WITH YOURSELF, PEOPLE AROUND YOU, AND NATURE?
Time offline and away in nature always resets me. I try to incorporate time in nature and creative play into every day. I’m really either in two modes, off or on. I work hard and efficiently, and I prefer to be productive over busy and understand that rest and relaxation are an important part of the equation.
HOW HAVE YOU INCORPORATED YOUR SPIRITUS CREATIONS INTO YOUR LIFE?
My morning routine sets the tone for the day. I love the daily ritual of selecting the bracelet/s I feel like wearing, it’s part of my morning routine. I’m a big believer in manifesting your dreams by setting intentions and being a connector and a creator. It all comes down to a mindset and being gentle and kind to yourself. I believe that positivity is contagious. There will be good days and bad days, and I believe that a rising tide lifts all boats.
